Should I Buy or Build?

One of the biggest questions we get from our friends and families is, "How much would it cost to build a house?"

Well, how much time do you have?

All kidding aside, it's a legitimate question that is determined by need. What do you need? A small modern house or a palatial Victorian? What's your budget? Are you handy?

We see a lot of frustration with the housing market. "Everything needs work." "It doesn't have everything on our wish list." "We HATE the location." The good news is that with the right amount of patience, and the right contractor, purchasing a home and making it your own is a lot easier than you would think!

On the other hand, building a new home gives you complete freedom to build a house from the ground up with YOU in mind.

We love the idea of laundry off the master closet and split bedrooms. No need for the kiddos to be on your side of the house. Or maybe you love the idea of the whole family sharing the second floor with a fully finished basement complete with home theater. Whatever it is, you get to choose!

And, while we can't answer the cost question on the spot, we can offer these words of advice:

Know what you need and what you want and what you can do without.

Have a budget in mind.

Be aware of your time frame? Do you need to move now? Is it the dead of winter or early spring?

In conclusion, renovations or new construction take time and consideration and with the right plan and team, neither one needs to be a struggle.

Good luck!
